Templeton hosted the January Division Council Meeting (DCM). As it took place right before the Superbowl, guests were encouraged to wear their team colors! Despite the rain, we had representatives from every club in the district make it — not an easy feat! The Kiwanis Club of Templeton thanks each and every Kiwanian who made it to our event. A great time was had by all!

TMS Principal Tom Harrington being introduced by Club President Bill Walker

At this morning’s meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing Templeton Middle School Principal Tom Harrington speak about the successes and challenges the TMS is currently undergoing. Tom is in his first year of his position; his goal is to continue to pursue excellence in academic achievement in the face of recent budget cuts.
Tom also hopes to connect the middle school more with the community through

local service clubs, and that’s where we come in! The Templeton Kiwanis Club is actively working to start a Builder’s Club, a Kiwanis-sponsored club that introduces middle school students to community service, leadership, and teamwork. Keep checking back for details!

Newest Templeton Kiwanis member Justin Sutton was inducted at our December 11, 2009 meeting! Justin is married to Rachelle Bowlay-Sutton, who became a member earlier this year. Justin graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology from the University of the Pacific in 2006. He and Raechelle moved to the area in October, 2006. Justin works as a residential supervisor for Options Family Services, a house for adults with developmental disabilities.

Welcome, Justin!

On November 21, we participated in the Templeton Turkey Trot! Hosted by the local Rotary Club, this run/walk was a great way to say hello to our fellow Templetonians.

At our pre-Thanksgiving meeting, we packed up some boxes for Operation Christmas Child, a program by Samaritan’s Purse that sends boxes full of Christmas presents to children who live in places where things we consider to be basic necessities are scarce. Along with toys, crayons, and notebooks, we sent soap, toothbrushes, and wash cloths, all packaged in large tupperware containers that the children can use again and again. We had a great time putting together the boxes!
